Runway Ads: the client loves your ad and wants twenty versions
Runway Ads connects to your Meta, Google and TikTok ad accounts, reads how your ads perform and generates new variants that your team approves before they go live. It helps you produce and test faster, but it does not guarantee sales.

Runway Ads is a tool Runway launched on September 30, 2026. You connect your Meta, Google or TikTok ad accounts and your brand kit; the tool generates video and image variants from the ads that already work, publishes them once your team approves, reads the results and prepares the next round. It is included in Runway’s paid plans. It helps you produce and test faster; it does not guarantee sales.
You finished the ad. The client loves it. Then the message arrives: “Can we have it in three languages? Vertical, square, 16:9? And with two or three different hooks to test?” In a few minutes, one video turns into twenty files. That is exactly the problem Runway Ads wants to handle, and not only by resizing.
What is Runway Ads?
Runway describes Runway Ads as an engine that runs the creative side of paid campaigns end to end. According to the official announcement of September 30, 2026, the cycle has four steps, the same ones shown on the product page: generate, approve, publish, learn.
- Generate: video and image ads built from your brand kit, your product imagery and your past winning ads. Each variant is tagged by hook, audience, format and call to action.
- Approve: each variant waits in an approval queue, after an automated brand check.
- Publish: approved variants go straight to the connected ad accounts.
- Learn: the tool reads performance back from each platform and builds the next round around what earned spend.

Which platforms does Runway Ads work with?
According to the official FAQ, Runway Ads connects to your Meta, Google and TikTok ad accounts. You approve a variant, it is published to the account, and results come back into the same tool. Runway says this replaces a loop that used to run across three or four tools stitched together by hand.
The tool also follows the budget limits you set: maximum daily change, minimum net-new audience share, retargeting caps. That is handy, but it means you hand over part of the media buying decisions, so keep control of those settings.
What can it change in an ad?
This is where the tool goes beyond resizing. It starts from what already works and creates versions of:
- the hook, the audience, the format and the call to action, the four tags placed on each variant;
- the language: localization covers the voiceover but also on-screen text and product screenshots, following rules you set (brand voice, terms that must never be translated). Results are read market by market, because a hook that wins in one country does not always win elsewhere;
- the frame: each variant is reformatted to the aspect ratios and specs of each placement.
For an editor, the logic is familiar: start from an ad that works and change one element at a time to learn what makes the difference.

Do ads go live without approval?
No, not by default. Runway’s FAQ is clear:
“Every variant waits in your approval queue, and nothing goes out until your team approves it.” Runway Ads FAQ
The announcement adds that human approval is on by default and that teams can switch to automated publishing by campaign or variant type as they build confidence. My advice: keep approval on until you have checked a good batch of variants with your own eyes, especially translated text and legal mentions.
How much does Runway Ads cost?
According to the FAQ, Runway Ads is included in every paid Runway plan and runs on the account’s credits. On October 29, 2026, the pricing page shows the Standard plan at $12 per month billed annually ($15 monthly) with 625 credits a month, and the Pro plan at $28 per month billed annually ($35 monthly) with 2,250 credits. The same page lists a Brand Kit from the Pro plan up. Prices change often, so check them before you commit.
What results does Runway report?
Runway says it built the tool on the infrastructure of its own campaigns, mainly on Meta and TikTok. Since July 2026, the company reports going from 77 to about 900 ads per week, with return on ad spend doubled, conversion up about 34% and cost per subscriber down 41%, while click-through rate held steady. These are Runway’s figures on its own campaigns, not a promise for yours.
How do you prepare an ad so it versions well?
With or without Runway Ads, a request for twenty versions is prepared in the edit. Here is the method I use.
- Cut a modular master. Split the hook (the first seconds), the core message, the proof and the call to action into blocks that can be swapped without breaking the rest.
- Change one element at a time. Three hooks on the same body is a readable test. Three hooks with three tracks and three calls to action, and you will never know what won.
- Keep text on separate layers. Titles, prices, subtitles and legal lines must stay editable, not burned into the picture. That is what makes translation fast.
- Plan the format matrix from the shoot. 9:16, 1:1 and 16:9 do not frame the same thing, so leave room around the subject and the product.
- Respect safe zones. In vertical video, the app interface covers the top, the bottom and the right side. Details in my article on safe zones.
- Redo subtitles for each language. Arabic reads right to left and does not run the same length as French or English, so proofread every version. See subtitles for Reels, TikTok and Shorts.
- Name every file clearly. For example BRAND_PRODUCT_HOOK-B_9x16_AR_v02: brand, product, tested variant, format, language, version. When results come in, you know right away what you are reading.

What the tool does not do for you
Runway Ads produces and tests faster. It does not replace the original idea or the quality of the master ad: it versions what already works. If the offer is vague or the product poorly shown, twenty variants will give you twenty versions of the same problem. The structure of a good short ad is still the base, as I explain in my article on ad storytelling, and for a longer sales video, in the VSL guide.
Also keep a human eye on generated translations, product claims and the mandatory mentions of your industry. The tool runs an automated brand check, but you are the one who signs off.
Frequently asked questions
Is Runway Ads free?
No. According to Runway, it is included in every paid plan and uses the account’s credits. The pricing page does not list it in the free plan.
Which platforms can you publish to?
Meta, Google and TikTok, according to the official FAQ. You connect your ad accounts, approved variants are published there and their results flow back into Runway.
Does Runway Ads replace an editor?
It automates versioning and testing. The master, the choice of shots, the pacing and brand consistency are still editing work. The cleaner and more modular the master, the better the variants.
Do you have an ad that works and want it in more formats, languages and hooks to test? That is the core of my work in video ads. Let’s talk about your project.
